The Gas Company Tower is one of the most distinctive and stunning buildings in Los Angeles. The Gas Company Tower is the the 5th tallest building in Los Angeles and was completed in the early 90's as part of the Library Square Redevelopment Project. It is also listed in the top 100 tallest buildings in the world. It has won a number of awards for Architecture among other things. It's also famous for the use of the elevator shafts and the roof in the beginning of the film 'Speed'. The other unusual aspect of the building is that the top of the building is shaped like the bow of a ship.
Other local points of interest include the mural 'Dusk' (one of the worlds largest murals and is painted along side one of the adjacent buildings), The Museum of Contemporary Art, the Wells Fargo History Museum and the Los Angeles Central Library. There are a wide range of retail shops and a variety of restaurants such as the Water Grill, Cafe Pinot, Las Maracas Restaurant and La Salsa Fresh Mexican Grill.
